10 Factors to Consider When Choosing A Predator Call

10 Factors to Consider When Choosing A Predator Call

Posted on April 4, 2023

Are you thinking of getting predator calls? With so many predator calls on the market, it can be a little challenging choosing the best predator call for hunting. In this article, we discuss some of the factors to consider when choosing a predator call to help you make an informed decision.

  1. Size

When choosing a predator call, the size of it should play a major part of your decision making process. A predator call will be with you everywhere you go on your hunting journey. A large predator call may be more of a hindrance than an asset.

You may find it difficult to move quickly as you track down game animals with a large predator call. Moreover, a large predator call may make more noise that could alert animals and make them leave the hunting area.

On the other hand, a small predator call may not provide enough amplification for the call you make for them to travel very far for game animals to pick them up. It is a delicate balance when choosing the size of the predator call and that is why you must give some thought into the size that you want for the best predator calls for your hunting needs.

  2. Battery Life

Almost all of the predator calls are powered by batteries. This makes it easy to take it with you while you hunt. As a result, the battery life of the predator call is very important. How long it lasts, determines how long you can use it to lure game animals into your shooting range before you have to replace the batteries.

There are two types of batteries that can be used with predator calls. They are replaceable and rechargeable batteries.
  1. Range

How far the sound of the predator call can reach is considered the range. It is another important factor to consider when choosing a predator call. Always look for the range of the predator call when choosing one and it is always good to choose one with a very far reach. This makes it easy for game animals that are far from where you are will hear the sounds and be attracted to come investigate it.

  2. Number of Programmable Sounds

When choosing a predator call, another important factor to consider is the number of programmable sounds that it makes. There are many programmable predator calls that feature more than 100 different programmed sounds to choose from. This is very important as it makes it easy to experiment with many different predator calls and see which ones bring out a response from the game animals.
  1. Amplification

How much control you have over the volume of the predator sound is also very important when choosing a predator call. This is referred to as its amplification. Different hunting scenarios will require different sound levels and for this reason the amplification is an important factor to consider.

  2. Durability

You want a predator call that is durable and can withstand the harsh treatment it will be subjected to during hunting. There will be drops, it will be exposed to rain, snow and sunshine. You want a durable predator call that is rugged enough to withstand the rough treatment.

  3. Weight

The weight of the predator call is also another important factor to consider when choosing one. Hunting involves a lot of movement in rough and rugged terrain. Moreover, you will be moving fast, yet trying to remain undetected. A lightweight predator call will make it easier for you moving through the woods than a heavier one.

  4. Single or Multi Speaker

You will have to decide if you want a single or multi-speaker predator call. The type of predator call you choose depends on how large of an area you will be hunting in. If it is a very large area, than a multi-speaker predator call will work best as it will get the sounds to travel farther to almost the entire area. A smaller hunting area might work with a single speaker.

  1. Electronic or Mouth-Blown

When choosing a predator call, another important factor to consider is whether you want an electronic predator call or a mouth-blown one. Mouth-blown predator call cost less than electronic ones and they are more beginner-friendly. However, electronic predator calls have more options than mouth-blown predator calls and they minimize operating costs.

  2.  Materials

A well-built predator call is preferred than a cheap and less durable one. Always inspect the predator call to verify that it is well constructed with durable materials that render it durable and long-lasting.

Conclusion

Predator calls help a hunter get the attention of game animals and lure them to the hunter’s shooting range. There are many brands and models of predators calls on the market today that makes it a little challenging when choosing one.

We have discussed some of the factors to consider when choosing a predator call. The best deer feeders and the best trail cameras are other hunting devices and equipment that help monitor and attract game animals for hunting.
